Brad Pitt’s beard prepares him for role?

by admin on Jan.09, 2010, under News, Show Biz

Brad Pitt’s beard is apparently helping him get into character for his next part.

According to People, Pitt will next be playing early 20th century British explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, who disappeared in the Amazon in 1925.

However, a Paramount source maintained that the film, called The Lost City of Z, has no script or start date. Further, the explorer had a handlebar moustache and no other facial hair.

“There is no film-related explanation I can give you as to why [Pitt] has the beard,” the insider added.

Avatar takes $1bn in just 17 days

by admin on Jan.05, 2010, under News, Show Biz

Director James Cameron’s science fiction epic is only the fifth movie ever to reach the figure and did so just 17 days after its release.

Cameron now looks set to have the two highest grossing films of all time after his 1997 blockbuster Titanic had global ticket sales of $1.8 billion (£1.1 billion).

Avatar is likely to overhaul second placed film The Return of the King, the final movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which made $1.13 billion (£700 million) following its release in 2003.

It tells the story of a war veteran who is sent on a mission from Earth to the planet Pandora, where he falls in love with a blue humanoid.

The film, which includes 3-D effects, has so far grossed $350 million (£217 million) in the United States, topping the box office over Christmas and New Year, and another $670 million (£416 million) in other countries.

It is one of the most expensive films ever made and is expected to receive several Oscar nominations.

Chad Hartigan, a box office analyst, said: “It was expected to do well but not this well. To have that already in 17 days is ridiculous. It’s holding so well from week to week, at this point the sky seems to be the limit.”

The other two blockbusters to have reached global ticket sales of $1 billion (£620 million) were Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and The Dark Knight.

Hollywood finished 2009 with $10.6 billion (£6.7 billion) in ticket sales in the US, easily breaking the previous record of $9.7 billion (£6 billion) in 2007.

Celebrity Big Brother lineup under wraps

by admin on Jan.03, 2010, under News, Show Biz

Among those rumoured to be taking part are former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson, ex-footballer-turned-actor Vinnie Jones and Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood’s former girlfriend, Ekaterina Ivanova.

Model Katie Price’s on-off boyfriend, cross-dressing cage fighter Alex Reid, and her ex, singer Dane Bowers, are also rumoured to be taking part and have already come to blows before going in, according to reports.

Celebrities, like the usual contestants, have been limited to one suitcase in previous series.

The luggage limit has been lifted this year so viewers will be keen to see who can pack light and who cannot live without lots of luxuries.

This year’s celebrity housemates can expect a rough ride if the Diary Room chair is anything to go by.

The chair, which seats two, is modelled on a waltzer ride and sits in the middle of fairground-themed Diary Room which also includes a distorting mirror to confuse the image-conscious contestants.

Celebrities will be able to talk directly to Big Brother when they are in the Diary Room and there is likely to be some screaming from the waltzer chair as the series has the theme ”hell lies in others”.

Executive producer Shirley Jones said the famous line from Dante’s Inferno ”Abandon hope all ye who enter here” had inspired much of the house’s makeover.

The property – which is fitted with nearly 50 surveillance cameras and 25 microphones – is opulent but oppressive with plush velvet sofas, boudoir lighting, fake fur pelts and antique animal skulls.

The kitchen is designed to look like an ”autopsy room” with clinical stainless steel fittings, Damien Hirst-style pickling jars, and walls painted in hospital scrubs green.

Celebrity Big Brother, which will raise money for Comic Relief, begins tonight at 9pm and will be live on Channel 4.

Alexandra Burke – I Want a boyfriend

by admin on Oct.09, 2009, under News, Show Biz

alexandraburke-01-big1

The Hallelujah singer insists she hasn’t had a boyfriend since before she entered The X Factor.

And she admits she’s only too familiar with the topic of her new single, Bad Boys.

Alex told me: “I’ve only ever had two serious relationships and they were both bad boys. I think every girl gets drawn to bad boys at a young age.”

With Bad Boys available for download from Sunday and in shops from Monday – accompanied by a sizzling video, right, Alex said: “I was 16 when I had my first relationship. It lasted about two years. Then I dated another guy for six months last year. But he was a bit of a nutcase.

“I let him go just before X Factor went live. He was very insecure and I have no time for that. There’s been no one since.”

After winning the hit ITV show last December, Alex spent months in America recording tracks for debut album Overcome, out on October 19.

Michael Jackson’s 51st birthday to be his burial day: father

by admin on Aug.17, 2009, under News, Show Biz, World

Joe Jackson, 80, told AFP that the birthday burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery, more than two months after his June 25 death from heart failure, would be a private event.

Authorities are investigating whether prescription drugs played a role in Jackson’s death, and have focused on the role played by his personal physician Conrad Murray.

Dr Murray was present at the time Jackson died and reportedly has admitted prescribing powerful anaesthetics to the singer.

Joe Jackson said he plans to return to Las Vegas immediately after the burial service to attend a charity fundraiser at the Palms Casino Resort.

The event, “Las Vegas celebrates the music of Michael Jackson”, will showcase Las Vegas Strip entertainers singing the star’s greatest hits.

Later that day, the Jackson family patriarch is to receive a celebrity star in his late son’s honour from Brenden Theatres, a cinema at the Palms frequented by Jackson and his three children, Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and Prince Michael II, 7.

The theater also has planned a charity screening of the 1988 film “Moonwalker”, a feature film of Jackson concert footage and music video clips, with proceeds going to public school music education programs in Las Vegas.

Michael Jackson ’secretly fighting skin cancer’

by admin on May.16, 2009, under News, Show Biz

The 50-year-old was diagnosed with the condition last month after doctors noticed spots of skin cancer on his neck and precancerous cells on his face.

But the singer’s illness is not expected to prevent him performing a string of 50 comeback shows scheduled in London this summer.

Doctors believe the disease is treatable, while aides said that he is confident of making a full recovery.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Michael’s test showed spots of skin cancer on his body, and cell which could turn to skin cancer on his face.

“He was at first very concerned, but says he has been assured by the doctors that they can treat this and he will recover.

“Michael is really looking forward to his concerts and is determined to wow his fans at each and every gig.”

The source added: “He said he’s insisted that any treatment must fit around the concerts, and the show will go on.”

Jackson was reported to have been regularly visiting a dermatologist in Beverly Hills wearing a mask and surgical cap.

He was also recently seen at the Cedar-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, which has a specialist lab to test for such diseases.

It is thought he will be treated by award winning Santa Monica-based skin cancer surgeon Dr Ralph Massey, who was educated at Cambridge.

The news follows widespread concern that Jackson’s ill health would prevent him from completing the run of shows planned at the O2 Arena from July 8.

Jackson, who was cleared child molestation charges in 2005, has not staged a major tour since 1997 or released an album of new material since 2001.

Snoop Dogg ‘tax debts’ revealed

by admin on Apr.26, 2009, under News, Show Biz

Snoop Dogg allegedly owes the state of California nearly £200,000 in back taxes.

A tax lien filed against the 36-year-old claims that he owes £195,899, according to TMZ.

The rapper, who was reportedly unable to finish a collaboration with Amy Winehouse last year because the pair became too stoned, is apparently being eyed to host this year’s MOBO awards in Glasgow.

Producers have lined up the rapper despite a ban which forbids the Ego Trippin’ hitmaker from entering the UK due to a fracas at Heathrow in 2006.
